"For a New America"
Environment Policy
The environment is a crisis facing America, and it is essential that we respond to it. The status quo of heavy government involvement into the development of green technology simply has not worked. The global temperature is still rising, and that is because the government has not targeted the correct problems. The US has tried to solve the problem by creating more clean energy, but they have not created a viable solution for the companies that contribute most to the climate crisis. The solution is not to increase the size of the pie in the energy sector, but rather to change what the pie is made of.

Fortunately, we believe that we have a solution. Right now, private companies are deincentivized from switching to green technology because it is simply not as profitable. However, a new model of energy can solve this. By increasing subsidies and tax breaks to energy companies, we can encourage the primary villains of climate change become the heroes. Green tech is becoming an increasingly viable business option, as Hilton of Yale finds that by 2021 it will be cheaper to develop wind farms than fossil fuels. Once we encourage companies to make the switch, companies won’t look back, and we will have a long-term sustainable solution to climate change. In addition, encouraging the development of greentech can have tangible benefits in the short term. Currently, China dominated the global sales of greentech, and if the US encourages private companies to move into that market, we can curb their influence and benefit the US as a whole. In addition, by developing green infrastructure, we can weather the short-term effects of climate change while having the framework for a long-term solution. This is the best, most feasible way to save our planet.
